Masakit talaga kung under-employed...pero it's a matter of perspective e...

Waah need inputs from those already working in AU..

i guess we can generalized based on this study... not just if you are a migrant... but also kahit nasa sarili kang bansa...

naturally if your job is not related to your skills/educational qualification, eh talagang madedepress ka at some point.... sana lang eh hindi matagalan ang pagrecover..

my favorite quote of all time:

If you CAN do something about it... why worry?
If you CAN'T do something about it... why worry?

Just make it as a stepping stone but be diligent enough to search for a job that fits you. I'm pretty sure there's always one meant for us. :)

  • Reply to @stolich18: Depends on your visa, if working visa-il say dont take it. If PR visa-as long as bayaran ka ng maigi why not.. Even if pangit ang reputation nila, do your job properly and utilize it as a stepping stone. At least magkaka working experience ka na agad, unlike the rest of us who have to agonize for several months due to lack of local experience.

It's normal to feel uneasy when you have to start from the ground up, especially when you're already at a senior level. Personally, I like my profession but I'd rather do something else. Tapos na yung pagpupursigi ko na maka-ipon ng experience points sa field ko if ever I get the visa. I'd rather draw for comic books or write stories. There are people lucky enough to be doing what they love.

Going back to the topic, my uncle was holding an executive position in a government agency in Manila before they moved to Sydney 20-ish years ago. When they got to oz, he started working as a ticket seller at the train station while studying at night. He did that until he got back to doing the same thing he was doing in Manila. His story never fails to inspire me whenever I think about it.

  • I guess this alarming news is not applicable to many Filipinos who migrated from 2009 onwards. In fact, most of us (not 100% though), have had secured job in a span of three months or less, in line with our professions. Filipinos are often madiskarte and are really survivors in a foreign land where competition is really tough. Our qualifications and work experiences are not fake, compared to other nationalities where even IELTS are being questioned by the Australian immigration because of the negative issues in their homeland. There was an i*dian guy here with a doctorate degree in Finance who ended up as a janitor. According to him, his overseas qualification and work experience did not recognize here in Australia. Why? Oh why??? He can’t even compete with a Filipino bachelor-degree accountant. Honestly, before you “rock n roll”in the workplace, you will sign a waiver that you authorize the company/agency to conduct third party privacy disclosure/investigation to your qualification and work experience overseas. Sobrang dami.

To our fellow pinoys who aspire for Australian dream, we are very much welcome here. Masisipag daw at matityaga ang mga pinoy. We gained high respect and credibility at Australian workplace over time.

  • Reply to @adelaide_boi: That's sooo good to know.

I've been reading around, here, on blogs and on other forums, and I have that impression that most Filipinos who want to go abroad wouldn't really dare fake their qualifications. We actually discourage each other to do such things.
  • it's true... this study is in general. whatever race wherever you are... it applies to all but all i can say is nasasaatin parin how we cope with this depression thing.

just my opinion, kaibahan nating mga pinoy is.. that most of us are believer of God, we believe there's a supreme being watching over us.

we are know how to endure hardship in life plus we believe everything will turn out positive in the end

sabi nga sa bible, all thing work together for good to those who love God ad are called according to His purpose

All things there means good AND bad. :)

A good example is what happened to our fellow forumer Mariya.

They experienced a something hard but in the end, God is indeed good and managed to demonstrate his awesomeness! :)

    Never lose hope guys!

  • Reply to @adelaide_boi: Sad to say, it was difficult finding a job from last year to date.
So far lahat ng kakilala ko, it took us 3 months or more to find a job. May paisa-isa na sinuwerte. and its not that type of job that we wanted, ika nga payroll job lang. Hopefully, this would get better.
  • Reply to @Sushigurl: still fortunate, they were able to find job 3 months or more, kahit paisa isa lang. Waiting period is still "months". The study says 3 yrs of being unemployed or underemployed?

  • Reply to @adelaide_boi: Just to clarify, its 3 years of being underemployed to the principal visa holder (yes, this is reality) while 3 years or less of being unemployed to the dependent (such as wife, partners). Hard to believe, but its happening.
    Competition is very tough.

  • Reply to @simple_sabbey: Im a accountant. I think it would be a good advice to our fellow kababayan to check the Australian job market before you arrive. timing rin kasi e. In my case, bagsak ang stock market nun, but no choice. I arrived here a week before expiry of my initial entry. Mahirap ang panahon nun, hindi raw ma extend ang initial entry, its take it or leave it.. 6 months before expiry of my initial entry e nagta-try nako maghanap ng work at seek etc. wala tlg... Same with my peers at that period. And just to clarify, someone might not have said it directly but original po mga papers namin, minalas lang kami. pustahan pa kung gusto mo? Some things are easier said than done. Just because maganda yung panahon ng arrival nyo and our situation is the exact opposite, doesnt mean to say na hindi kami madiskarte or peke ang docs namin. Please do not add insult to injury, as if our situation isnt bad enough.
  • Reply to @JClem: JClem, the situation now is really bad for most newcomer. As you said, bat patagalin ng 3 years-we keep trying believe me... even now that we got a "kahit na ano jobs", a week never pass by without applying for the same role that we previously have. local experience habol nila....takes time sabi nga ng mga agent. But you are right, God will provide what's meant for us IN his time. Allow me to share someone's experience. Both hubby and wife are Asians as well, not filo tho. Like me, they are also assigned for work outside their country before moving to Aus. Wife being the primary applicant moves to Aus with kids, and it took her 13months to get a job. She was telling us her story of her despair and agony. Luckily, hubby is still working oversea and can afford to send a fair amount of funds. However, after 13months of trying, she landed a Senior accountant's role without doing any entry level/junior role. After working on that job for a few months, hubby resigned from his role in the Middle East and move to Aus to joined them. As a Christian, she advised us to hang on, pray and never stop believing in God's providence. I believed this forum was created for us Filo, to share our experience so others can be aware and learn from it. I also think we should encourage each other and possibly point people to the right direction, instead of criticising.
  • Reply to @Sushigurl: I don't think makakalusot ka with fake papers, given na malupit rin ang mga butas na dadaanan before getting the visa approved. Sabi rin nga eh, another person's luck might not be applicable to another.

Which is why I've opened this thread : Ways to apply to jobs in Australia

I worry kasi baka ganun, magmove ako then spend a lot and such tapos mahihirapan pa pala ako and be unemployed for quite a long time. mahal pa naman dyan.
