Good day guys.

I just have a question regarding how serious the Australian authorities are when it comes to fighting piracy.

I've just been granted a VE 176 visa (including my family) and will be in Adelaide by January next year.
I have two (2) hard disk drives with a collection of movies (downloaded from torrent - more or less 4TB) that I'm planning to bring along.

Do you think they will check my drive up to the extent that they will connect it to a computer to thoroughly check the contents or they will just verbally ask me what's inside?

Or maybe I'll just bring only one drive for now (for them not to get suspicious) and will bring the other one when I got the chance to go back here in Manila in the future?

abangan ko din ang updates sa thread na to....meron din akong 3TB worth of downloaded hd movies and tv series. hehehe

hehehe na curious ako sa tanong mo @rbolante, kaya tinanong ko tuloy ung amo kong australian. strict daw sila pero hindi nag checheck ng HDD. DVD and VCD lang daw :)

Reply to @hotshot: Ayos sir pwede na tyo mag-trade ng movies! Hahaha! I was planning to buy another 2TB but my sponsor discoourage me to bring it kasi ayun nga baka daw masilip mayari kami.

Reply to @aolee: thanks a lot for asking your boss about it! :D i think they won't check if i bring 1 hard disk but my problem is i'm planning to bring 3 so ayun nga iniisip ko baka sa dami ng dala ko magduda sila at i-check ung laman yari. :-S

Reply to @rbolante: may kaibigan kasi kme na nagsabi na may nagkwento daw sa kanila na minsan nagrarandom check daw. ang ginawang example e kung may bibit ka daw laptop, minsan daw tatanungin ka kung may pirated programs/files ka at ipapa-delete syo. pero hearsay lang naman to....di ko sure kung totoong nangyayari.

at followup question na din...legal ba ang magdownload sa torrent pag nasa oz ka na? may nakakapagdownload ba ng mga files from torrent sa oz?

Reply to @hotshot: Same here bro nagkwento sakin officemate ko yung friend nya daw pinabuksan yung laptop at chineck yung mga pirated softwares at pina-uninstall pero di naman tiningnan pa kung ano yung ibang laman. US-bound nga pala yun at hindi AUS. Although ibang country they still have the same style of checking. Malas na lang talaga kung matyempuhan ka ng random checking.

bro I had the same question way back Feb this year. I just copied some movies that I want in my laptop hdd. I left my 1TB there in Phil because I don't want to get into trouble being a new migrant.

I saw in Australian border security a scene where an external hdd has been checked so better think twice. Right now I'm downloading all the movies again via my unlimited Internet :)

@rbolante tingin ko nga mas safe na 1 lang dalin mo or wag na para sure like sabi ni sohc may random check pala na ngyayari.

@hotshot I'm sure there's no problem if your using Dodo Internet. My brother and sisters have been using it for many years now for torrent download and got no issues at all. I have a Chinese friend who told me that other ISP's here are quite strict.

So far enjoy ako sa 5Mb download speed not bad.

Meron akong napanood na ganito sa Border Security. Ni-confiscate mga DVDs/CDs kasi puro porn. Two Americans ata yun, not sure lang. >:)

Sabi po sa CFO seminar, usually pag may hard drive ka daw na dala, dito pa lang sa immigration tatanungin ka na nila. And then they connect it to a computer tapos pag may nakita silang pirated movies/softwares buburahin daw nila un automatically. They will not confiscate the hard drive pero isosoli nila ng wala ng laman and flagged ka na daw agad na nagdala ng pirated/dowloaded movies/softwares.

Pano mga ebooks ko? Is there a way for them to determine na from torrent lang din?

I didn't know that we are strict here in the Philippines regarding this matter. I went to France twice 2 years ago dala ko ung 2TB HD ko na naka-enclosure nilagay ko pa sa handcarry ko with my laptop they never checked it. Pagdating ko dun sa Paris wala din nanita. I guess it's a matter of chance. Pag minalas-malas ka talagang matyempuhan yari ka.

my general rule: when in doubt... don't do it..

especially pag ganito ka strict and serious matter..
do not put your migration to risk.. just because of trivial things...

Reply to @lock_code2004: totally agree sir. i've just decided not to bring my "movie collection" HDD anymore with me. sa sunod ko na lang na uwi siguro basta wag lang sa initial entry baka nga malagay ung migration status namin sa alanganin.

kung mga software po kaya uusisain? kasi may mga CAD programs na 'jacksparrow' na installed sa laptop ko which i plan to bring there baka kasi kailanganin ko sa work.

i suggest, uninstall it. then re-install it na lang after mo makapasok. kung possible. hehehe

Yun na nga iniisip ko sir, kaso ayaw ko namang itago yung installer sa laptop din hehe. i'm not planning to bring any ext hdd kasi. Kunsabagay, may 32gb naman na microsd. kasya na siguro dun installer. Di naman siguro kakalikutin pati cellphone! hehe

gawa ka separate partition sa laptop. ibahin mo yung format gawin mo linux fs or other format para hindi viewable sa windows. Ganun ginawa ko sa laptop ko kaya naitago ko yung PS3 at Wii games :-)

kapag subukan nila access yung partition magtatanung na do you want to format this drive kaya akala mo empty hehe

hindi naman tiningnan yung laptop nakadalawang International flight na ko hindi naman tiningnan sa Sydney and Adelaide airport.
